Our company history

1964 – Roland and Marlene Brünz opened their Café Brünz in the idyllic town of Waldachtal in the Black Forest more than 50 years ago. Café Brünz has remained a family-owned establishment to this day and is a popular day trip destination for tourists and health resort visitors in the area. The dedication and passion of company founder, Roland Brünz, laid the foundation for the later success of Pfalzgraf Konditorei. By the mid-1970s, frozen gateaux and cakes were being sent to customers – a pioneering achievement for its time.

In 1977, Roland Brünz founded the company Schwarzwald Konditorei Brünz in Waldachtal-Salzstetten and supplied the German food retail industry with frozen gateaux, as one of the first manufacturers to do so.

In 1985, Pfalzgraf Konditorei was founded.

Since 1989, the owner-operated family business has been under the management of Dirk Brünz. Since then, Pfalzgraf Konditorei has grown rapidly and sustainably – from its original 15 employees to 250 employees in 2015 and now distributing approx. 40,000 frozen cakes and gateaux per day.

The company, which celebrates a history of over 30 years, has developed from a medium-sized business to a market leader and one of the best and most successful businesses in the German and European food service sector today.

On 23.05.2015, a fire broke out in the recently completed extension of one of the production halls, which destroyed the entire production facility across an area of 20,000 m2. It was one of the most catastrophic fires in Baden-Württemberg since the Second World War.

2015/2016, we were able to rebuild the business in a record time of only 9 months, as a result of the successful team work and creativity of many tradesmen, planners and Pfalzgraf employees.

Since 4 July 2016, delicious products in handmade quality have been produced once again for the food service industry and catering market, in one of the most advanced facilities in Europe.

In July 2017, we moved into our new office building and therefore the reconstruction of Pfalzgraf Konditorei has been completed.
